This is a mural I worked on last year with my friend, paleo-artist Viktor Deak. It's a commission from the Houston Museum of Natural Science for the exhibition - Lucy's Legacy. The exhibit features the actual bones of Lucy, traveling for the first time ever outside Ethiopia. (If you are into paleontology then you know how big a deal that is.) The exhibition will travel for the next 6 years, and our mural will go right with it - acting as the backdrop to her bones.
It's 10 feet tall and 78 feet long and depicts 6 million years of human evolution in Ethiopia. The image is composted of manipulated photos we shot ourselves while in South Dakota, Wyoming and Puerto Rico. All the figures are manipulated photos of models we shot in New York. It too a total of 4 months from beginning to end to complete - a task I highly DO NOT recommend for anyone to try and recreate.
Yup - from concept to completion, 4 grueling months. The actual rendering part - all the work done in computer - was only half that! I didn't sleep at all last summer.
It was. It was great working with Viktor too, I learned way more about evolution than I had ever wanted, lol. And yeah, there were times when my computer couldn't handle the work load. I've since upgraded.
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
A Special Collection of photographs i found this month that still haunts my mind. Show them some love There are always some i can`t include due to space, i try to make the features under 50 deviations to give them better exposure
